Invisalign braces is a virtually invisible orthodontic treatment that uses custom trays called "aligners" which fit snugly over the teeth. Every treatment involves a series of aligners that shift your teeth slightly according to the prescribed final outcome planned. These aligners use the right amount of force to guide your teeth to the desired position provided that they are worn as directed.
Invisaling Procedure
Prior to Invisalign treatment we recommend the teeth to be cleaned and polished professionally and be free of decay or any needed urgent dental treatment. Once the patient is ready for the procedure we then make models of the teeth and ship them to Invisalign laboratories where the models are scanned into a digital CAD/CAM model where then the position of the teeth can be individually manipulated. A series of instructions are given by us to the Invisalign technicians where the final position of the teeth are planned. Once we are happy with the computer simulation of the proposed treatment we then order the aligners. Typically it takes about 4 weeks from the initial visit to get the aligners shipped to the office and ready to start.
Insertion Visit
Once the aligners are received the patient is scheduled for the insertion of the appliance. Sometimes it is necessary to place a few attachments (tooth colored) in order to help with the bio-mechanics of teeth movement. Instructions are given and the patient is seen ever few weeks to check progress.
Living with Invisalign
The aligners need to be worn a minimum of 22 hours a day in order to be effective. They are typically taken out during meals, and are kept in during sleep. Most patients report that after the first week they do not notice the aligners in their mouth as it becomes part of their routine.
Lenght of Treatment
Every case is individual specific. Most of Dr. Mazaheri's Invisalign treatments taken anywhere from 3-12 months depending on the complexity of the crowding and patient's goals.
Retainers
Following completion of treatment it is necessary to have retainers in place as the newly positioned teeth are easily prone to relapse following treatment. Dr. Mazaheri highly recommends the Vivera retainers following the completion of Invisalign.
